In Isaiah 9:6, one of the names of the Messiah that Isaiah mentions is the Prince of Peace. This particular name shows Christ as supreme ruler that has brought peace to all people. As Jesus states in John 16:33, when we experience tribulations, we can have peace because He has overcome the world. Holding to the idea that through Christ coming and dying and rising again and that all who believe on Him will have peace. He has overcome the sin and evilness in this world and our hearts.
Today's scripture from my book Today I pray by Stonecroft ministries is the opposite of having peace.
Isaiah 59:8 but also including the previous seven verses.
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear. 2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear. 3 For your hands are defiled with blood,and your fingers with iniquity;
your lips have spoken lies, your tongue has muttered perversity.4 No one calls for justice, nor does any plead for truth.They trust in empty words and speak lies; they conceive evil and bring forth iniquity.They hatch vipers’ eggs and weave the spider’s web; he who eats of their eggs dies, and from that which is crushed a viper breaks out. 6 Their webs will not become garments, nor will they cover themselves with their works; their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.7 Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.8 The way of peace they have not known, and there is no justice in their ways; they have made themselves crooked paths; whoever takes that way shall not know peace.
These verses are describing a person who has no peace with God. They separated because of their sin. Not because God can't save them. Not because He cannot hear them. It is all them. They have chosen to hold onto their sin. They have no concept of the things of God. It is in their actions and words. They cannot know peace because sin runs rapid in their hearts and mind.
As I was praying for the certain people who God laid on my heart for this particular verse, I began to think of two types of people with no peace. There are the people who are not saved and live their lives in sin and just don't care because they know no other way. Those people hold onto anger and bitterness and who are sad. These people are the ones we need to pray for to come to the Prince of Peace as their Lord and Savior. It is only God who can save them.
The other people are the ones who are Christians and know that they are holding onto some sin in their life but just can't let go. They are literally struggling and wrestling with God. But once again, they have chosen to separate themselves from their Prince of Peace. God's hand cannot be shortened. We need to come along with them and pray with them and direct them to God's word.
I challenge you to pray and ask God to show these type of people in your life. We need to show them the little Baby that came and grew as a man who died that can be their Prince of Peace too.
Open _________'s eyes, Lord Jesus, and show _________ the way of peace.
